May 31 – June 1, 2024 – Budapest, CEU Democracy Institute
Khaled Emam, Executive Director of Justice Call, joined scholars, experts, and policymakers at the CEU Democracy Institute’s Annual Conference, themed “Democracy and Development: Global Dialogue on Autocracy and Re-Democratization.” Held at the CEU Democracy Institute in Budapest, the conference provided a unique platform for interdisciplinary dialogue aimed at rethinking democracy’s political, social, and economic dimensions.
The event marked the launch of the Global Forum on Democracy and Development, a project funded by the Open Society Foundation. This initiative seeks to foster creative and critical cross-regional collaboration, bringing together scholars from the Global South and North to address the contemporary challenges of democracy. The forum highlights diverse perspectives across various disciplines, including Law, History, Economics, Political Science, and Anthropology, to confront conceptual and policy-related issues surrounding democracy’s revival and reclamation.
The conference facilitated meaningful discussions on autocratization and re-democratization, emphasizing the importance of global collaboration in addressing the complex realities of modern governance and democratic development. Khaled Emam’s participation underscored Justice Call’s commitment to promoting inclusive and resilient democratic practices worldwide.
